EU nationals do not need a long-stay visa

If you are an EU national and you are planning to visit Canada, you don’t need to apply for a long-stay visa if your stay will be less than 180 days. However, if you are planning to stay longer than this, you will need a visa. For this reason, it’s best to apply for an eTA, or electronic travel authorization, before leaving your home country. It will ensure that you can quickly and easily process your application.

For those who don’t want to apply for a visa, the European Union has introduced a new electronic travel authorisation system (ETIAS) for Canadian citizens. This system is an electronic way to obtain a visa waiver and is expected to be fully operational by November 2023.

Applicants from other EU countries will need to apply for a visa at the consulate or embassy in the country they plan to visit. A Schengen visa will enable you to visit other Schengen countries, as long as the total time of stays does not exceed the stated number of days. A multiple-entry visa is valid for five years.
