Once you’ve made the decision to hire a professional home cleaning service, you’ll most likely feel like a huge (and dirty!) burden has been lifted from your shoulders. But, while you can simply do nothing before they arrive for their first scheduled session, you may find it helpful to do a few simple things beforehand, to ensure that you get the most out of the experience, and that the cleaners can carry out their work effectively.

These few straightforward preparations will give the cleaning team full access to every area of your home that you want them to clean, and also help them work as quickly as possible; the quicker they work, the less time you have to hire them for:

Declutter

You’re in control of what areas you want your cleaning team to work on, so once you’ve decided what you want them to clean, try to make those areas as accessible as you possibly can so that they can do their job effectively. This may include removing any clutter or personal items from surfaces, including the floor and countertops.

Make your expectations clear

While you don’t need to have long, detailed conversations with your professional cleaning team, you do need to make your expectations clear by explaining to them exactly what areas of your home you want them to focus on, and which areas of the home (if any), you don’t want them to clean. Of course, your cleaning goals may change from session to session, in which case you can simply, and quickly, reaffirm what you want the team to work on when they arrive, or if more convenient, before they arrive.

Any other special instructions that you may have (within reason!), can also be communicated at this time, and the cleaning team will do their best to comply.

Integrate home preparations with your daily routine

Regular cleaning sessions, such as weekly or bi-weekly, will go a lot smoother for you if you work your preparations (such as decluttering) into your usual routine. In this way, you’re not inconvenienced, and neither are your cleaning team.

Advise the cleaning team of any pets you own

Even if your animals are friendly and won’t cause any issues to the cleaning team, you must be sure to advise them of any pets that you own, before they enter your home. This will ensure that your pets aren’t disturbed, the cleaning team aren’t disturbed, and that pet-friendly cleaning products are used at all times.

Allow ready, safe access to your home

Depending on the type of security system you own, ensure that the cleaning team have easy, safe access to your home should you wish not to be present while they are there.

Lastly, you should try to schedule cleaning sessions so that it will cause you minimum disruption, and remember that they are there to do a job, and should be left to get on with it; if you’ve chosen experienced professionals, they will do their job well!
